The African National Congress (ANC) in KwaZulu- Natal on the 13th of August decided to fire eThekwini mayor Zandile Gumede. Gumede’s unlawful activities within the municipality were recorded in a report compiled on the state of the 11 municipalities including eThekwini. Gumede was found guilty of infighting, rampant corruption and a complete collapse of service delivery.
Gumede is also guilty of spending tender money totalling R208 million. The firing of Gumede is a result of the ANC deciding to get rid of employees in municipalities who were not performing their duties effectively. Gumede is not going down without a fight and is claiming that she was dismissed unfairly.
“I’m being shut down not to do my oversight. I’m not going to allow that. I’m not going to be taking that lying down. I’ll be using real instruments of my organisation. You can’t suppress me because I’m a woman. Enough is enough.” Gumede said to News24. The story is still progressing.
