ENCA reported that PSL sponsors are threatening to pull the plug on its association with the league if the SABC blackout continues. Since the start of the 2019/2020 PSL season, the SABC has not broadcast any of the PSL games on their television and radio platforms.
The SABC confirmed that they will not be broadcasting any of the PSL matches for the entire season because they could not reach a sub-license agreement with Supersport, who hold the broadcast rights for PSL.
According to reports, Supersport asked for R244 million from the SABC and no agreement was reached because in the last five years the SABC has lost R1.3 billion in relation to the PSL games. However, PSL spokesperson Lux September took to Twitter yesterday to dismiss all reports that sponsors are threatening to pull out if the SABC blackout continues.
