South African soccer fanatics woke up to the sad news that sports veteran journalist and analyst has died at the age of 47. His family confirmed in a statement on Monday morning that he has passed after a long battle with diabetes. According to SABC news, Kekana passed away at Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg after being admitted recently.
Kekana worked for the SABC for close to 20 years and was still the public broadcaster when he died. Arts and Culture Minister Nathi Mthethwa took to twitter to send his condolences and acknowledged his contribution to football analysis for almost two decades.
Devasted fans and colleagues also took to social media to send their condolences to Kekana’s family and payed tribute to his legacy.
